“We are unique and diverse, but we are united and always supporting people around us". Hong Kong is a very diverse city. Kids and teenagers of different ages and races are our future and hope. Their voices, thoughts, talents are unique, too! Teenagers from Tseung Kwan O Government Secondary School, and kids from International Social Service Hong Kong Branch - HOPE Support Service Centre for Ethnic Minorities, came together and express themselves by two ways, Performance Art, which is the reflection of real life, and Puppetry, which is beyond imagination. The two different communities tried to tell the audience their own dreams and stories after they had participated in the two workshops respectively. In the workshops, the two groups even shared and exchanged their dreams and stories in forms of art expressions and creations to each other. Through merging, sharing, interacting of thoughts and art in the process, and as a result they produced the crossover jamming part under the idea of two-way giving and gift exchanging by both parties. They were using their own performances to benefit and support each other. Gathering individual and collaborative power, they could build not only interactive art work, but also energy and life, and perspectives seeing the world, including the unique but united, diverse but supportive, positive and optimistic side. These all could inspire creative thoughts about life and indefinite possibilities.

The two groups of “We Are Unique” young people have never had public performance or experience in creation. All they had was the workshops for learning and exploring inspirationally how art can be used for self-expression and to see the world in different ways, and thus, creating their own wonderful pieces! In the first part of the Sharing Session, teenagers from Tseung Kwan O Government Secondary School created their own and unique individual pieces of performance artworks to tell the audience about their future dreams, together with video screenings of clay doll presentations which are created by them too, following by kids from HOPE Support Service Centre using puppets to react to their dreams; as in the second part, HOPE Support Service Centre representatives created a collaborative puppet show to presented a story chosen and told by them, while the Tseung Kwan O Government Secondary School students reacted by using an array of visual art forms and materials to create a mixed media live drawing collaboratively, visualizing “WE ARE UNIQUE”.
