Teaching is an organic process that promotes the growth of teachers and learners. The classroom should be a safe, accessible, and inclusive place for learners from different backgrounds to explore their strengths and achieve their full potential. I create the learning environment by promoting content in context. I consider learners' prior knowledge and their different abilities and needs to make the process engaging and fun. An important goal is to create an interactive learning environment where learners connect with the content mentally, emotionally, and intellectually.
Each participant engaged in the process is unique in their learning process, and they need multiple methods to reach their success. To improve access and inclusion, I incorporate a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in the classroom and online. I use the UDL framework to guide the design, development, and implementation of goals, strategies, and materials. UDL is based on scientific insights that contribute to the learning process by offering multiple ways for “engagement,” “representation,” and “action and expression.” By taking into consideration brain processes when teaching, I hope to optimize learning while promoting meaningful and challenging inclusive interactions.
Finally, I have a systematic process for timely feedback. Five minutes before the end of the class, students answer two anonymous questions about the effectiveness of the materials and their learning process. I regularly stress my commitment to communication and encourage students to provide feedback. Through this process, I hope to engage students, maximize achievement, and exceed their expectations as a facilitator of their learning.
