Access to academic and professional success has always been the result of persistence and dedication in my life. Like many other Latinos who struggle with family and financial support, I found strength in my desire to succeed.
I was born and raised in Brazil. When I arrived in the USA in 2001, I spoke only enough English to barely communicate basic needs. I was unable to clearly express myself to others or understand the language. I decided to embrace this new challenging world by studying the language and merging into the new culture.
Despite financial needs and family responsibilities, I not only learned English and Spanish but also earned a BA and an MA degree. Today, I am proudly the first in my family to attend a Doctoral program.
Since I received my first degree in Psychology, I've foreseen myself interacting with other underrepresented individuals and concentrating on empowering their strengths and supporting their needs to achieve success.
My personal experience as a Latina and low-income student and my involvement with a minority population promoted an unstoppable passion for social justice, access, and the inclusion of diverse students. I am here to make significant contributions to influence, support, and impact my community.
