What's going on in G7?
In 2019 and 2020, City leaders and residents came together to create a plan for the neighborhoods near Gratiot and 7 Mile in northeast Detroit This project is supported by the Strategic Neighborhood Fund, which is a $130 million commitment to implementing the recommendations of this plan and those in nine other areas of Detroit.
The Gratiot/7 Mile planning area includes neighborhoods bounded by East 8 Mile Road, Kelly Road, Houston-Whittier Avenue, and Schoenherr Road. The plan will look at stabilizing single family neighborhoods, multi-family housing and retail opportunities, as well as park, greenway, and streetscape improvements.
This is your neighborhood and you have an opportunity to make your voice heard. You can provide input about improvements you would like to see in the G7 and the Mohican Regent neighborhood.

Brilliant Detroit is dedicated to building success in neighborhoods where families with children 0-8 have what they need to be school ready, healthy and stable. Brilliant Detroit does this by providing proven programming and support year round out of Brilliant Detroit homes.
Brilliant Detroit is a non-profit organization working in high-need Detroit neighborhoods, seeking sound answers to the state of early childhood education and literacy. The goal is to prepare their young children and families for school, work with partners, as well as the people of each neighborhood to implement evidence-based programs that address education, along with the health and development of children 0-8 and their families.
Only 14% of children read at grade level by third grade, a deeply troubling statistic with negative implications for kid success. Since third grade is the time when children begin reading to learn instead of learning to read, and given the third grade reading law going into effect next year that will hold children back if not proficient, the time is now to make a change.

2025 Easter Egg Hunt & Annual Picnic
The "Easter Bunny" visited the park on April 19. We offered the members an Easter Egg Hunt, photos with the Bunny and face painting sessions.
July 5, 2025, we held our annual picnic.
On Saturday, October 18, 2025, Mohican Regent neighbors came together at the George Preston Community Park, to enjoy games and activities for the kids, refreshments, raffles and roasting marshmallows.
The generous donation from Fifth Third Bank and the concert goers at our 7th Jazz in the Park concert help support community programming in Mohican Regent.
Some community partners that participated were:
Fifth Third Bank Mama's Restaurant
Fifth Third Bank Mike's Market
JZ Motel City of Detroit
Picadilly Liquor
After years of planning and working with the City of Detroit Land Bank, we have finally finished the new community pocket park on State Fair and Anvil! The park is named after our hardworking president, George Preston. It is a quiet place for MRRA members to gather, enjoy nature, hold small group meetings and a major hub for MRRA events. We are providing it for use to rent to Mohican-Regent Resident members in 2026.
