I believe Community Builders are essential because they foster a sense of belonging, connection, and mutual support within a group. They create an environment where people feel seen, heard, and valued, which can significantly enhance a person's college experience. In my role as an RA, I aim to create opportunities for residents to build relationships, connect with one another, and engage in meaningful experiences that go beyond surface-level interactions.
One of the Community Builders I’ve hosted was a football watch party combined with a dinner, where residents gathered to watch a game and share a meal together. The goal was to create a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere where residents could bond over the excitement of the game while enjoying good food. This event encouraged social interaction, fostered a sense of camaraderie, and allowed residents to connect on a more personal level. I hope that through events like this, my residents gain a deeper sense of community, build lasting friendships, and feel more comfortable reaching out to one another for support. I also hope they experience the importance of inclusivity and respect, as these values are essential for creating a strong and supportive community that extends beyond the residence hall.
