Dr. Akintomide (Adewuyi)’s program of research focuses on at-risk populations, with emphasis on aging, evidence-based and technology-enabled nonpharmacological interventions, and individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and their care partners. Her work examines the complex relationships among socio-ecological contexts, psychosocial determinants, intervention approaches, and quality of care, with the goal of identifying pathways that contribute to socioeconomic and health disparities.
Guided by community-based participatory research principles, mixed-methods designs, equity-centered design, behavioral science, psychometric approaches, and social science theories, Dr. Akintomide seeks to generate evidence that informs culturally responsive, practical, and sustainable interventions. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, she also co-develops and evaluates digital tools, assistive technologies, and innovative care models designed to improve health outcomes and care experiences among diverse populations.
Dr. Akintomide has contributed to the field through funded research, peer-reviewed publications, books, and presentations at professional conferences. She is also actively engaged in professional service, including leadership roles on committees within organizations such as APHA, SNRS, and ACHNE. In addition, she serves as a reviewer for national and international grant funders and peer-reviewed journals.
