The Survivor Assistance Team (SAT) tracks member deaths daily and ensures that a timely condolence letter is sent to the family, along with an offer to assist the family during their transition period.
The Survivor Assistance Team (SAT) tracks member deaths daily and ensures that a timely condolence letter is sent to the family, along with an offer to assist the family during their transition period.
This is a "pull system" in that our response is triggered by their request for assistance. When contacted by the family we are prepared to guide the surviving spouse through the process that ensures they will receive the entitlements promised them by their Service with a minimum of hassle and disruption in their quality of life.

Once activated a team member will meet with the surviving spouse, provide her/him with an overview of what needs to be done and assist them in collecting, documenting and submitting the various government forms that are needed.

Each family's circumstance is different, so the scope of the services we provide are tailored to their needs. But the quality of compassionate service is a constant source of relief for all our families. Knowing that the SATom will be there to help our family through these difficult times provides comfort to all of us ... that's what we do.

This excellent document was prepared by Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 123 (Merritt Island) and provides an excellent survivor planning guidebook and detailed survivor worksheet. Couples can make an appointment with a certified DAV service officer at the Veterans Memorial Center for help with planning.
