Presentation
The Applicant should prepare a 15-minute presentation of the projects they have submitted, along with any necessary records, plans, calculations, images, etc., to illustrate their professional experiences. The objective is to test the Applicant’s presentation skills as a professional engineer.
Begin with 10 minutes presentation regarding the report submitted (~10 slides, if available) before the interview.
To ensure clarity and impact during your HKIE interview, your presentation slides should follow these principles:
Concise & Precise: Limit each slide to three key points and aim to present each within one minute.
Visual Clarity: Use images, diagrams, or drawings that are clearly visible and relevant. Avoid clutter.
No Copy-Paste: Do not copy content directly from your report. Instead, summarize plans, computations, and findings into digestible bullet points.
Discussion-Ready: Crop or zoom images to the appropriate scale to encourage meaningful discussion.
Purposeful Design: Every element on the slide should support your explanation and reflect your engineering experience.
Suggested allocation of time for a 15-minute presentation:
2-minute Introduction of Applicant’s academic qualifications, training and professional/responsible experiences;
4-minute Project experiences for applying mechanical engineering knowledge;
4-minute Project experiences for developing technical solutions for complex engineering problems;
3-minute Management experiences for complex engineering works or activities;
2-minute Experiences for upkeeping professional acumen;
During the interview, Applicants must provide compelling evidence that they meet all the competencies outlined in the HKIE Competence Standard for Professional Engineers (Corporate Members):
Project Experience: Demonstrate substantial involvement in appropriate engineering projects.
Training Reflection: Reflect on your professional development and how your training shaped your engineering capabilities.
Competence Alignment: Clearly link your experiences to the HKIE competence requirements through examples and outcomes.
