Applicants, having completed Scheme "A" training and acquired adequate responsible experience to manage engineering activities and can demonstrate their experience compliance with the HKIE Competence Standards, should be allowed to sit for PA.
In general, it would take no less than three years after graduation to satisfy these.
A total of 13 Disciplines have adopted results of English language tests* in lieu of essay/ technical write-up in the Professional Assessment for Membership admission via the General Experience and Formal Training Routes.
*IELTS 6.0 / CRE Level 1/ HKDSE Level 4

The interview process is structured to focus on your demonstrated experience and competence:
You will have 15 minutes for a Presentation to showcase your experience.
Assessors' questions will be based within the content of your submitted Training and Experience Report and your Presentation material.
You are expected to demonstrate competence "within a practice area," rather than at "an Expert level."
For the MCL route only, there will be an Experienced Assessor acting as a Facilitator during the interview.
Membership admission via the General Experience and Formal Training Routes normally takes 3- 6 months from application submission to results release. provided that the documents submitted requires no further clarification/ resubmission.

The total processing time (from submission to HKIE) is approximately 4 months. The process involves:
Pre-submission: Applicants must first obtain UKEC and Home professional institution documents.
Application to HKIE (Admin and MCL DAP vetting): ∼10 weeks
Arranging Interviews: ∼4 weeks
Obtaining results: ∼6 weeks
