8th Battalion – Army JROTC (2025–present)

LTC Laurie Medina (Ret.) began Army JROTC at Mira Mesa High School in August 2025, with SFC Kenyaxia Adams (Ret.) joining the unit in September.

CA-936 – Air Force JROTC (1993–2025)

Lt Col Dennis Ritter (Ret.) and MSgt James B. Manson (Ret.) began CA-936 Air Force JROTC at Mira Mesa High School in September 1993.

In March 1997, MSgt Randy Crouch (Ret.) joined the unit, and there were three ASIs.

In September 2011, Lt Col Charles Olander (Ret.) replaced Lt Col Ritter.

MSgt Manson then retired from teaching at the end of the 2014-2015 school year, leaving two ASIs.

Lt Col Olander and MSgt Crouch retired at the end of the 2016-2017 school year and were replaced by Maj December Garcia (Ret.) and MSgt Winston Cagadas (Ret.) beginning in August 2017.

MSgt Cagadas then transferred units, and was replaced by CMSgt Jo Ann Shaw (Ret.) at the beginning of the school year in 2020.

In August 2022, Lt Col Olander temporarily replaced Maj Garcia and CMSgt Shaw for a semester.

Maj Garcia then returned in December 2022, with MSgt Jairo Medina (Ret.) joining at the same time to finish the 2022-2023 school year.

MSgt Medina then transferred units, leaving Maj Garcia and Lt Col Olander temporarily back to sub for the start of the 2023-2024 school year.

In March 2024, SMSgt Erik Dupree (Ret.) joined Maj Garcia as the newest ASI of CA-936.

Maj Garcia and SMSgt Dupree then retired at the end of the 2024-2025 school year, marking the end of CA-936 Air Force JROTC.
