Acceptable Proof Of Exam Credit


You must be currently licensed, or take and pass Element 2 (the current Tech exam) for any element credit to apply. Applicants claiming credit for an exam element must provide acceptable documentation in paper form supporting the claim. The documentation must be left with the VE team. For acceptable proof of element credit, your documentation must be one of the following specific items, no others will be accepted:

You may present a CSCE that was issued 365 days or less prior to the date of the exam session you attend.


Eligible credit for unexpired licenses

  1. If you have an unexpired Technician license granted before Mar 21 1987, General license, or Advanced license you are eligible for Elements 2 and 3 credit.

  2. If you have an unexpired Technician license granted after Mar 21 1987 or a Technician Plus license you are eligible for Element 2 credit.


Eligible credit for expired licenses:

  1. An expired Technician class license granted prior to Mar 21 1987 for Element 3 credit.

  2. An expired General class license for Element 3 credit.

  3. An expired Advanced class license for Element 3 credit.

  4. An expired Amateur Extra class license for Element 3 and/or Element 4 credit.

  5. A letter from the FCC indicating the applicant was previously granted a specific class of license and when the license was granted.

  6. A screen print from the 1993 QRZ Database. This database only contains calls granted between 1983 and 1993.

  7. A copy of the cover and applicable page from a call sign book showing the date of publication, the applicant’s name, call sign, and class of license.

To become licensed again you must provide one of the above documents and take and pass Element 2 (the current Tech exam). You will NOT be assigned your old call sign but it may be available through the vanity system.
