We are developing and evaluating a Japanese Vocabulary Profiler, a computational tool designed to measure the lexical complexity of Japanese texts. The profiler analyzes the vocabulary used in a text and provides information about its lexical characteristics, including vocabulary frequency, distribution, and proficiency levels.

The tool will be useful for Japanese language education, curriculum and learning-material development, learner corpus research, and language assessment. It can help teachers and material developers evaluate the vocabulary demands of Japanese texts and select or adapt materials appropriate for learners at different proficiency levels. Researchers can also use the profiler to investigate lexical development and complexity in Japanese learner writing, while students can use it to assess and monitor their vocabulary use.

By developing a Japanese-specific vocabulary profiling tool, this project aims to contribute to the growing field of corpus-based Japanese language education and computational linguistics and provide an accessible resource for researchers, teachers, and learners.
