Semarang, June 23, 2026 – The Master’s Program in Linguistics, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Diponegoro, held a Visiting Professor event on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. The event featured renowned academic and writer Soe Tjen Marching, who delivered a lecture entitled “Language, Power, and Collective Memory.”

In her presentation, Soe Tjen Marching explained that language serves not only as a means of communication but also plays an important role in shaping how people think, understand reality, and remember historical events. Through various cross-cultural examples and historical studies, participants were invited to explore how word choices, terminology, and narratives can influence a society’s collective perception of the past.

The discussion also highlighted the relationship between language, power, the media, and the formation of public discourse. Various terms that have emerged in Indonesian history, particularly those related to the events of 1965, were discussed as examples of how language can be used to construct, maintain, and transform social memory. Participants were also invited to reflect on the challenges of the digital era, in which algorithms and online media increasingly play a role in shaping public narratives.

Semarang, 2 September 2026 — The Master’s Program in Linguistics, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), once again organized the UNDIP Global Classroom as part of its efforts to broaden students’ academic perspectives through interaction and knowledge exchange with academics from around the world.

Held online via Zoom on 2 September 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. WIB, the UNDIP Global Classroom featured three academics from Pakistan: Dr. Ayesha Jafar from the University of Sialkot, Prof. Dr. M. Asim Mahmood from Government College University Faisalabad, and Dr. Humeera Faraz from Air University Islamabad.

The three academics contributed to a series of academic sessions designed to provide UNDIP Linguistics students with international perspectives. Their participation offered students an opportunity to learn about developments in linguistics within the broader context of international academia and higher education.

Semarang, September 3, 2026 — The Master Program in Linguistics at Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) continues to strengthen its commitment to international academic engagement through the UNDIP Global Classroom program. The program brings together international scholars from leading universities in Pakistan and France to provide students with broader academic perspectives and global learning experiences.

The first session featured Dr. Syeda Tehseen Zahra from Bahria University, Pakistan, held on May 13, 2025. The second session welcomed Dr. Saira Kazmi from Quaid-i-Azam University, Pakistan, on May 14, 2025. The third session featured Panggih Kusuma Ningrum, Ph.D. from Université Marie & Louis Pasteur, France, on May 15, 2025.

The series provided an opportunity for students to engage in academic discussions with international scholars, expand their knowledge of linguistics, and develop international academic networks. The participation of scholars from different countries also encouraged cross-cultural academic exchange and opened opportunities for future international collaboration.

Through the UNDIP Global Classroom, the Master Program in Linguistics continues to promote an educational environment that is international, collaborative, and responsive to developments in global linguistics.
