I'm currently a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology and the Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies (GSWS) Program at Union College. Before joining the faculty at Union, I was an Assistant Professor of Psychology in the SUNY System. I completed my Ph.D. in Applied Social and Community Psychology (2017) and M.S. in Community Psychology (2014) at North Carolina State University, and a B.S. in Psychology and B.M. in Music Performance (2012) at Centenary College of Louisiana.
My research broadly centers around issues of equity, particularly health equity for intersectional LGBTQ+ populations, and topics related to gender and sexuality. Ongoing areas of interest include LGBTQ+, Latinx, and immigrant healthcare equity, inclusive sexual education, minority stress and psychological well-being, medical mistrust, and proximal and distal impacts of prejudice and discrimination. I'm particularly interested in issues related to women and transgender and gender non-conforming persons. My research is guided by a social ecological framework, and I often integrate the health beliefs model and minority stress model in my work. As a community psychologist by training, much of my research is community-engaged and participatory in nature. I'm always looking for opportunities to collaborate with colleagues at other institutions, community-based organizations, and to engage with students interested in research. I have experience teaching and developing a variety of courses in both psychology and gender, sexuality, and women's studies. Check out the teaching tab to learn about my teaching philosophy and the courses I've taught.
Beyond teaching and research, I have held various leadership positions within the American Psychological Association (APA), including the executive board for the Society for Community Research and Action LGBTQ+ Interest Group and the Society for the Psychology of Women Section on LGBTQ+ Concerns, the chair of the APAGS Committee on Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity, and coordinator of the APAGS LGBTQ+ Graduate Student Mentoring Program.
At Union College, I am the departmental coordinator for DEI and am involved with the LGBTQ+ Affairs Committee and the Coordinated Community Response Team through a grant from the Office of Violence against women. At my prior institution, I served as an undergraduate psychology advisor and the coordinator of the undergraduate shadowing and internship program. I also served as an appointed member of the SUNY University Faculty Senate Council on Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity which represented DEI-related initiatives across all 64 of the SUNY System campuses. Additionally, I held various roles in university governance, including Fiscal Affairs and Strategic Planning, serving on the Middle States Steering Committee, the President's Council on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the General Education Task Force, the Electronic Implementation and Technology Accessibility Committee, and various other groups.
Outside of work, I enjoy playing and listening to music, hiking with my dogs, skiing, traveling, trying new foods, and pretending I can cook.
