Biography
経歴：
1933年1月8日、東京・大塚に生まれる
1956年文化学院美術科入学
1958年文化学院美術科卒業。のちに1965〜68年まで同学院で講師を勤める
1959-60年マン・レイ、モホリ・ナジに惹かれ自己流でフォトグラム、デカルコマニーを制作(〜60年)
高円寺の画廊喫茶「ネルケン」で発表中、瀧口修造に出会う
1961年第一画廊(東京・新宿)で第 1 回個展を開催
金丸重嶺、植村鷹千代、写真家の今井寿恵に見出され、今井の助手を勤める
1962年フリーランス・カメラマンになり、『週刊平凡』『週刊女性』に若者を主題とした写真などを掲載(〜65年)
第一画廊および村松画廊で個展を開催(〜68年)
1964年『ライフ』『ライフ・インターナショナル』に写真掲載
〈ジャックの会〉の活動に参加
1965年『美術手帖』『小原流挿花』などに若いアーティストの 訪問ドキュメント、小劇場運動や舞踏の写真を掲載(〜68年)
1968年『婦人公論』『アサヒグラフ』に現代美術、舞踏、小劇場、風俗、社会問題などの写真を掲載(〜70 年)
1971年『週刊朝日』でフォト紀行「ナウナウ」を担当(〜75年)
1972年「ビデオ・ピクニック」(善福寺川公園ほか、都内各地) を企画
『美術手帖』『芸術新潮』『芸術生活』などでアートルポ、紀行、記録写真を発表(〜79年)
銀座絵画館やシミズ画廊(東京・荻窪)で個展を開催
1979年「東京展」(東京都美術館)に出品
1981年新潮社の新雑誌『フォーカス』を企画立案、取材スタッフとしても活動(〜83年)
1982年画廊春秋(東京・銀座)で個展開催
「アヴィニヨン演劇祭」の写真部門に出品(フランス国内15都市を巡回)
1983年写真集『舞踏 肉体のシュルレアリストたち』(現代書館)発行
ポンピドゥー・センターで写真とスライドの展示を行なう

Biography:
19331933 1.8 Born in Ōtsuka, Tokyo.
1956Entered the Faculty of Art of the Bunka Gakuin.
1958Completes his study at Bunka Gakuin.
He will teach as a lecturer at his alma mater in 1965–68.
1959Inspired by Man Ray and László Moholy-Nagy, experiments with photograms and decalcomania, (–1960).
Meets poet-critic Takiguchi Shūzō at Nelken, a gallery café in Kōenji, Tokyo, during an exhibit of his work.
1961Holds his first solo exhibition at Dai-Ichi Gallery in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
Discovered by art critic Uemura Takachiyo and photographers Kanemaru Shigene and Imai Hisae, becomes an assistant to Imai.
1962Becomes a freelance photographer and contributes photographs of young people to such magazines as Heibon Weekly and Shūkan josei/Ladies’ Weekly (–1965).
Holds solo exhibitions at Dai-Ichi Gallery and Muramatsu Gallery in Tokyo (–1968).
1964His photographs are published in Life and Life International.
Participates in the activities of Jack Society.
1965Contributes documentary photographs of young artists in their studios, underground theaters, and Butoh dances to Bijutsu techō and Ohararyū sōka/ Ikebana Ohara (–1968).
1968Contributes photographs of contemporary art, Butoh, underground theaters, social customs, and social issues to Fujin kōron and Asahi Graph (–1970).
1971Contributes “Now Now,” a serialized photo travelogue, to Asahi Weekly (–1975).
1972Plans Video Picnic at Zenpukujigawa Park and other locations in Tokyo.
Contributes art reportage, travelogue, and documentary photography to Bijutsu techō, Geijutsu Shinchō, and Geijutsu seikatsu (–1979).
Holds solo exhibitions at Shimizu Gallery in Ogikubo, Tokyo and Ginza Kaigakan in Tokyo.
1979Participates in Tokyo Exhibition (Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum).
1981Plans and inaugurates Focus, a photo weekly for Shinchōsha and becomes active as a staff photographer (–1983).
1982Holds a solo exhibition at Gallery Shunjū in Ginza, Tokyo.
Participates in the photography section of Festival d'Avignon, which travels to 15 places in France.
1983Publishes The Butoh, a photobook documenting “Bodily Surrealists,” from Gendai Shokan.
Exhibits photographs and slides at Centre Pompidou in Paris.
Holds a book signing for The Butoh at bookstore Flammarion in Centre Pompidou.
Holds a solo exhibition in Nantes, France.
1984Holds a solo exhibition at the Paris headquarters of UNESCO.
Holds a two-person exhibition at Gallery White in Israel.
Participates in the video section of the Venice Biennale.
