About NSS
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a central sector scheme of the Government of India, launched in 1969 with the primary objective of developing students’ personality through community service. NSS encourages young minds to understand social issues and actively participate in nation-building activities.
Unit Camp
Unit Camp forms an integral part of National Service Scheme. It has special appeal to the youth as it provides unique opportunities to the students for group living, collective experience sharing and constant interaction with community.
Objectives of Unit Camp
To make education more relevant and meaningful by aligning academic learning with real community needs and exposing students of universities, colleges, and schools to actual social conditions.
To provide opportunities for students to actively participate in development programmes by planning and executing projects that contribute to the creation of durable community assets in rural areas and urban slums, thereby improving the living conditions of weaker sections of society.
To encourage collaboration between students, youth, and adults in rural and urban communities, fostering character building, social awareness, discipline, and a spirit of service with positive and helpful attitudes toward society.
To identify and nurture potential youth leaders by exploring the latent talents of student volunteers and local youth, enabling their deeper involvement in long-term development initiatives and ensuring the sustainability and maintenance of community assets created during the camps.
To emphasize the dignity of labour and self-help, promoting the integration of physical work with intellectual pursuits for holistic personality development.
To motivate youth to actively participate in the process of national development, while promoting national integration through democratic living, cooperation, and collective action.
