Linking Assignment #3
~Cuneiform vs Hieroglyphics~
~Cuneiform vs Hieroglyphics~
Here is the webpage I am linking to: https://sites.google.com/view/bgs-site/assignments-and-projects/cuneiform-vs-hieroglyphicsÂ
This peer's webpage discusses how cuneiform writing is challenging and they would rather choose hieroglyphics as their preferred writing system. By giving examples of their experience of writing in both systems, I understood that this peer and I had similar challenges and agreements. For example, I also found the hieroglyph writing easier than cuneiform. Nevertheless, my peer and I have provided different reasons for our explanation, and due to having similar ideas with variant justifications, I decided to complete my linking assignment on this peer's post. Furthermore, my peer mentioned that it took them some longer time to complete the cuneiform activity; they required doing additional research to solidify their understanding of how to write their sentences; and they believe that average, modern people would not proficiently decipher meaning from the cuneiform writing. From reading these ideas, I agreed and reflected on how different writings of even the same English sentence could impact one's comprehension. Thus, I chose to reflect on this peer's post.
My Reflection:
This peer has demonstrated their learning on this topic by thoroughly answering the two given questions of the assignment. They have included images of both their cuneiform and hieroglyphics activities at the top of their webpage which gives the viewer time to analyze the writings for themselves before reading the written responses. They have numbered their questions and indented their paragraphs, making the format of the webpage appealing and easier to run-through. This peer has extended their responses by giving examples to their experience during and after the writing activities. Overall, their demonstration of their learning is similar to mine since I also added images of my writing activities at the top of my webpage and went beyond the surface line to comprehensively answer the reflection questions. However, my peer decided to not add supporting online images; after asking them why, they mentioned that they found it redundant. Nevertheless, I believe that if someone from outside of the classroom were to view my website, it would be more visually appealing to have decorative supporting images related to the topic. Hence, I align with my peer's demonstration of their work but believe that we could not go extra by adding two or three more images. Furthermore, my classmate's experience is similar to mine as we both have mentioned that cuneiform was a challenging writing system and required more patience/time to complete. We both enjoyed the hieroglyphics activity and were amused by drawing pictographs to represent our ideas. In addition, we experienced how cuneiform had similar-looking characters to represent different sounds and this was a challenge when finding the appropriate characters for our activity. Moreover, my peer's presentation of their assignment was similar to mine (as mentioned before, with their layout and detailed responses). As a result, their assignment has not changed my view of my assignment and opinion, and in fact has further solidified my belief that cuneiform is more challenging and complex compared to hieroglyphics.
