22nd October 2018, Coimbra, Portugal
CNC - Center for Neuroscience and Cell, University of Coimbra, Portugal
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Coimbra and the MitoXT laboratory group at the CNC – Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology have the pleasure to invite you to the meeting “Mitochondrial DNA and Derived Peptides in Health and Disease” on October 22nd, 2018. This meeting will be held in the beautiful University of Coimbra, UNESCO World Heritage and the second oldest University in Europe. Coimbra is a lively student city located in the center of Portugal, approximately two hours from Lisbon (South) and one and half hour from Porto (North).
Mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell, playing a central role in a wide range of diseases. Mitochondria are also a special organelle that possess their own DNA, which encode not only electron transport chain proteins but also surprisingly some small peptides. These play an important role in the regulation of cellular homeostasis, being implicated in aging and associated diseases.
This one-day meeting will focus on mitochondrial DNA alterations and the consequences for different pathologies. Importantly, one important aspect of this meeting will be mitochondrial-derived peptides and their role on the protection against lifestyle and aging-related diseases.
Pioneers and leading researchers from Portugal, UK and USA will present their work on the field. Furthermore, participants will have time to discuss and interact with all the researchers that will be present, promoting scientific interactions, knowledge improvement and collaborations.
We look forward to welcoming you in Coimbra.
Don’t miss it!
