Educators plan, provide, and evaluate the impact of professional learning for educators and leaders to advance teaching and learning with technology. The program shall prepare candidates who:
(i) Establish coaching relationships to support educators as they explore new instructional strategies and integrate technology to improve student learning;
(ii) Design and implement professional learning based on needs assessments and the theories and frameworks for adult learning;
(iii) Evaluate the impact of professional learning and continually reflect on how to improve coaching and professional practice; and
(iv) Foster educator participation in professional learning networks to help them connect with other educators and stay abreast of current and emerging technologies and innovations.
The reason I chose to continue my higher education was a desire to learn about instructional design for coaching purposes. I love helping other professionals and wanted to learn the best way to do just that. This program commanded all levels of the standard above of its uses from the start. I have obtained so many experiences in assessing needs, designing instruction with research-based practices, and evaluating the impact of instruction for further development. The experiences and assignments were always intentional and published for use in professional learning networks.
Very early in my program I completed a screencast project that was published online to teach other educators who to use Microsoft Forms to expedite their classroom duties. The screencast project designed carefully through the use of instructional design principles as documented in the plan below. We then had to publish our work for access by other professionals through collaborative learning.
The included online professional development course below was another example of careful instructional design. Through my practicum I was able to design and facilitate this professional development that my fellow educators could participate in. The session walked participants through the uses of the new technology, JamBoard, and had them apply the technology before using it on their own to design lessons. Interactive assessments and practice provided me with plenty of data to analyze and improve my coaching techniques for future sessions.
