Educators design authentic, learner-driven activities and environments that recognize and accommodate learner variability environments. The program shall prepare candidates who:
(i) Use technology to create, adapt, and personalize learning experiences that foster independent learning and accommodate learner differences and needs;
(ii) Design authentic learning activities that align with content area standards and use digital tools and resources to maximize active, deep learning; and
(iii) Explore and apply instructional design principles to create innovative digital learning environments that engage and support learning.
Content creation has always been a passion of mine. I love applying the skills that I have with the instructional strategies based on scholarly research. This program allowed me the opportunity to apply these interests and talents within the proper instructional design methods. Below are some of the ways I have applied these skills and ideal.
The instructional design plan assignment was a large effort that combined many of my skills with what I learned about best practices in my classes. I was able to use content curation tools, digital assessments, and various graphic design software to create the materials to go along with the content in a carefully designed unit plan. At the completion of design and creation, I was able to collect all of the resources into a webpage that students could use and navigate for learning.
Differentiating material for students also requires having a set of resources that are available and sorted for access when needed. Creating these tools and organizing them is another experience I had while working through this program. Both guided and independent tasks of curation were given to strengthen our skills and abilities. The open educational resources list embedded below is one of those activities I completed. This resource helped me immensely in developing my understanding of providing and differentiating resources for use in the classroom and elsewhere. It has become a regular practice of mine.
Knowing that students learn in various formats means needing to create resources that meet those needs. The various video content creations in this course taught me valuable lessons on how to use videos and screencasts to support students where needed. I also learned how to implement these to provide differentiated instruction for best practices. Technology can now maximize my time and I'm able to model this for other educators as well.
