In 2025, we will be focusing our efforts in the Pollards Hill ward, as we know that there are hedgehogs on Mitcham Common. Our goal is to determine whether these hedgehogs are visiting local residential gardens and green spaces. We aim to unite the local community in taking supportive actions for wildlife conservation in their gardens and surrounding areas. These actions may include the creation of hedgehog highways and hedgehog-friendly green spaces.
You can get involved by:
Allowing us to survey your garden or greenspace using a footprint tunnel and/or trial camera (subject to availability).
Helping with surveys in local greenspaces, such as Mitcham Common.
Logging any hedgehog sightings (dead or alive) on the Big Hedgehog Map or reporting them directly to us.
Creating a hedgehog hole and encouraging your neighbors to do the same.
Creating a hedgehog-friendly garden, allotment, or greenspace.
Raising awareness about hedgehogs, focusing on their decline and the conservation efforts being made. This can be done via social media, when talking with family or friends, or during local events.
If you want to participate in the survey season (May-September), please fill out the questionnaire below.
