Join us for a fun, hands-on workshop where you’ll learn how to use simple footprint tunnels to monitor local wildlife without causing any harm or distress. It’s accessible, educational, and a fantastic citizen science activity for all ages.
What to Expect at the Workshop
Hands-on Assembly: Learn step-by-step how to set up and bait a footprint tunnel.
Footprint Identification: Practice identifying common mammal tracks using real-life examples.
Tunnel Placement: Finish the session by helping us place the tunnels in prime locations around Grangewood Park (optional—you do not need to stay for the placement portion).
Get Involved Beyond the Workshop
Want to take your detective work to the next level? You can volunteer to join us over the following few days to check the tunnels, record footprint data, and directly contribute to local nature conservation efforts!

Thank you to everyone who attended our talk to celebrate the launch of ‘Connecting Communities for South London’s Hedgehogs’. It was lovely to see so many people interested in protecting our local hedgehogs!
A big thank you to Grant and the Grangewood Bowling Club for hosting us. Also thanks to John (RSPB Croydon Local group) for letting me borrow their projector and Library of Things for renting out their projector screen

Community Litter Pick
Community Litter Pick
On 14th March, we arranged a community litter pick to clean up Mayfield Playing Fields. We carried out a litter pick in this area last May, but this year we were taking part in the Keep Britain Tidy #greatbritishspringclean. We had 4 volunteers take part and they spent 2hrs litter picking. They collect 22 bags of litter, with most of it being plastic bottles!
We know football training takes place here, so it is disappointing to see all the bottles left by the players.
The area has been subject to heavy flytipping and there is still a lot of work to do here to get the area looking how it should be.
We hope we can work with Croydon Council and AFC Croydon Athletic to keep this area tidy.
We’d like to thank all the volunteers who took part and thank Tracey, Croydon Council Street Champion Co-Ordinator, for the lending us all the equipment we needed.
Litter can cause a variety of issues for wildlife and the environment. Please keep Britain tidy!

Hedgehog Discovery Afternoon
On Sunday 26th October, we hosted our first event!
We hired the Sherwood Park Hall in Mitcham and hosted an afternoon all about hedgehogs. We had a range of activities from arts & crafts, footprint identification and finding hedgehog hazards. We also showed the award-winning short film by the BHPS, The Littlest Hoglet.
It was wonderful to have families come along, and I hope we inspired some young conservationists.
This event was funded by our SpaceHive campaign.

Hedgehog Awareness & Community Gardening Day
Together with NEMCA Community Centre, we hosted a family friendly afternoon filled with hedgehog-themed activities, crafts and planting. Unfortunately, we had some technically difficulties with our projector, so could not share everything we wanted too.
We would like to thank NEMCA for collaborating with us and a huge thank you to the children for some fantastic posters for Hedgehog Awareness Week. We encouraged the children to think of one thing people could do to help hedgehogs. Here’s one of our favourite posters (Visit our socials for some of the other posters).

On Sunday 22nd June, we had a stall at Mitcham Carnival. We shared ways to get involved with our project, how to help hedgehogs, made hedgehogs from pinecones and coloured in. The Mayor of Merton visited our stall and shared his support.
Community Walk
Community Walk
On Saturday 26th July, we joined the Pollards Hill Walk and Talk for a lovely morning walk. We walked to Mayfield Road playground, then through the play fields to Mitcham Common and ended our walk at the Ecology Centre.
