Design Considerations

Contrast

I used a plain white background with black text. I also made the title text much bigger than the other text to make it stand out to the viewer first. I also adjusted the contrast on the images to make the map details easier to see.

Repetition

The heart shapes were duplicated to ensure they all had the same size and shape and color.

Alignment

The yellow hearts are all aligned at the same height to create a straight line for the viewer. Because this piece is more decorative and casual, I used center alignment for the text.

Proximity

The text below the hearts is close enough to the center point of the heart so the viewer can distinguish which text belongs to which map. The title text is a little further from the hearts, but close enough that it doesn't create trapped white space.

Color Choice

I used yellow for the hearts to draw the eye to that focal point (and because it matches my bedroom decor). Otherwise I used a very mild color palette to let the concept of the piece stand out more than the color scheme.

Font Choice

I chose a fancy font script for the names to create a romantic feeling, but juxtaposed that with a sans serif modern font to create visual interest.

Photoshop Skills

The following Photoshop skills were used to create this graphic:

  • Imported heart shapes.

  • Added and resized the heart shapes.

  • Filled the hearts with black.

  • Inserted map images on top of the heart layers.

  • Added a clipping mask to the map images to set them inside the hearts.

  • Added and resized text.

Revision

The following revisions were made to the original graphic:

  • Added yellow borders to the hearts.
