Design Considerations

Contrast

I adjusted the levels and black and white layers to create enough contrast between the foreground image and background image. I also reduced the opacity on the pattern layer to ensure the subjects were contrasted enough in comparison to the pattern images. I also added a light color below the darker text to ensure the words contrasted enough against the background.

Alignment

The text is aligned on the right side because the words represent what the image is conveying. I wanted the viewer to read the words after analyzing the images.

Color Choice

The background color, gradient color and text colors are pulled from the foreground image to create a cohesive graphic.

Font Choice

I chose a script font to match the romantic feeling of the graphic.

Photoshop Skills

The following Photoshop skills were used to create this graphic:

  • Created a contact sheet using 100 photos on a 10x10 image. I saved this contact sheet to use as a pattern.

  • Created a mask to remove the background behind the subjects so the pattern would not be obstructed by the background details.

  • Added a solid color layer under the subjects. The color of this layer was pulled from the bouquet.

  • Added a Black and White layer mask to the image of the subjects and adjusted the saturation to reduce the contrast and vibrance of the color.

  • Added a pattern layer mask using the photos contact sheet. The opacity of this layer was set to 75% and the blending mode was changed to Soft Light to help it blend with the layers below.

  • Adjusted the levels using a Levels Layer Mask pulling in the lights and darks closer to the center.

  • Added a gradient to the bottom of the image to allow for more contrast under the text.

  • Added text and adjusted the font, size, and spacing.

Revision

The following revisions were made to the original graphic:

  • Moved the subjects above the mosaic pattern to make them easier to see.
