Future generations of scientists, politicians, and teachers are currently entering our country's education system. As a music educator, I feel it is my job to prepare these generations for success. How can I, a music educator, prepare our future generations for success? By providing them with the tools to express their creativity through music and apply their new found creativity to other areas of their lives. My classroom will promote not only tolerance of others, but curiosity and respect of all cultures. Promoting curiosity in our students is vital because curiosity is the first step to building our students' individual cultural identities. In order to maintain a true representation of whatever cultures we are exploring, we must keep respect in the forefront. Respecting cultures musically means honoring them in the most authentic way possible, without using preconceived notions or stereotypes. In order to instill creativity in our students, they must learn how to respond to music of all types, from cultures both familiar and foreign to them, and develop a sense of what type of music makes them happiest and sparks the most curiosity. Music education is especially vital for children because it encompasses life lessons and skills, such as being kind, thoughtful, creative human beings, which is the most attainable when taught from a young age.
