I supervised various grades and subjects, taught lessons, and used available resources in the classroom to follow the plans and schedule each teacher had left. I continously addressed student behavioral situations and disciplined students according to the schools policies on progressive discipline.
I adapted quickly to each school’s schedule and procedures and made myself familiar with the emergency protocols and plans. I regularly communicated with secretaries and other teachers to determine where students were in their units and constructed lessons when no plans were left.
I created and taught 100% of the teaching load in the English Department: Grade 9 Academic English and Grade 11 Indigenous Voices. I implemented student guided reading groups to understand Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew.
I developed and taught 70% of the daily teaching load in the Social Sciences Department: Applied Geography, Nutrition and Health, & Challenge and Change. I had the opportunity to co-create and develop resources, activities and lessons for a new course, Nutrition and Health. I also prepared differentiated lessons in CGC1P to address a class of 20 with Individual Education Plans using adaptive technology, work stations and visual elements, to cater to several needs and improve engagement in class.
I prepared and taught 7 lessons in Literacy, Math and Social Studies, with focus on Grade 6 EQAO. I created a cross curricular lesson plan by implementing the poetry unit and Indigenous Studies by analyzing poems about Aboriginal histories to connect poetic devices with the Social Studies unit. Created Social Studies assessments that encouraged students to study and research relevant social issues (Truth and Reconciliation Act, Global Warming, Smoking) to evaluate their ability to form and support arguments throughout the writing process and promote higher-order thinking in their opinions.
I taught class sizes of 5-6 students of varying primary grades levels, simultaneously. I developed lessons through scaffolding to develop independence in tasks such as adding and subtracting fractions. I observed and learned the process of SERT meetings with Primary, Junior & Intermediate teachers.
I observed the classroom dynamics, contributed to marking and grade recording. I taught 4 Math lessons pertaining to double digit subtraction including concepts such as “borrowing” and “carrying”, while accommodating for ELL and new immigrant students. I developed classroom management skills by co-creating class rules and rehearsing transitions.
I tutored elementary school students in literacy and math skills to catch up to their appropriate grade level. I tutored high school students in English enrichment and essay writing ability in preparation for University and College level English courses.
I tutored primary students and adult English Language Learners in speech and comprehension. Using a continuous vocabulary log to integrate everyday words into past, present and future sentences and for students to monitor their own progress.
I trained to work alongside specific students in preparation for EQAO Math and Literacy skills. While teaching grades 3 and 6 students, I developed lessons with math “Arrays” and “Strings” to promote multiple methods of solving math equations.
I oversaw and facilitated day-to-day camp activities such as, developing program plans, payroll, collaborating with other camps, training staff, interacting with parents and meeting with staff to hear input and develop changes for new sessions.
