Describe characters in a story (e.g., their traits, motivations, or feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events
Teaching Suggestions:
Before: Have students make predictions about the story based on what they already know. Preview the characters and ask students questions such as:
What do you think Badger and Skunk might be like based on their names?
What kinds of traits do you think a skunk might have, and how might they be different from a badger’s traits?
During: As you read, pause periodically to discuss the actions and traits of the characters. Have students keep track of this either in a notebook or on sticky notes.
After: Have students use a platform such as Seesaw to record a skit based on the story. They can work together to recreate a scene from the book or create one of their own based on the personality traits they have observed.
Writing Activity: Have students write the scene they are going to record for the above activity before they record it.
