In all my projects and bands, collaborating is when I feel most alive.
I relish the interplay of inspiration, energy and craftsmanship when creating together.
In spring 2021, as covid still held its reign over the world, Cameron McLellan and I created a DIY studio in a tiny shed in a garden. Here we wrote and recorded the first demos for an early version of the film
The Hermit of Treig.
We wanted to create music that could have been made in a cabin in the woods, or around a campfire, or by lost boys marching through the forest with whistles and sticks.
Later that year, as the last of the summer was turning into autumn, we regrouped to create the final score for the film. We made another DIY studio, in a farm shed in Aberfoyle, surrounded by trees and hills. By then, the film had changed a lot, telling a deeper, darker story. We recreated the soundtrack, bringing feelings of melancholy and nostalgia.
This soundtrack album includes includes unreleased tunes we wrote from our first months in spring.
It also includes score from the film which we have extended to become fuller pieces of music.
