I have worked as a music facilitator for over 8 years, in collaboration with organisations including Reeltime Music, Beatroute Arts, Lyra, Dunedin Conncert and REFRACT.
My workshops include group composition, ensemble playing, group drumming, musical storytelling, group improvisation, and recording masterclasses.
"Mischa, an experienced and engaging music teacher, brought so much energy and joy to the session. His enthusiasm really resonated with the children, and they were captivated by his sense of humor and passion for music."
“In all the time that I’ve known her I’ve never heard her speak, but when Mischa was sitting with her one to one with no other young people around, she had joined in with the song and chose what she would like him to play by pointing at it on the iPad, this shows big improvements for her.”
The way Mischa worked with the staff and young people to settle on ideas that resonated with everyone"
My daughter loved learning to play a new musical instrument. It give her a boost in her self-esteem and I could see that they had such a therapeutic approach with the kids. Definitely ace.”
Huge thanks to [...] Mischa for leading such a fantastic workshop. The kids had an absolute blast, creating their own music, writing songs, and putting on a performance!
"I’m definitely coming back tomorrow!"
"I had so much fun!"
The Musical Forest in Three Hares Community Woodlands is a vibrant, interactive space where nature and music unite. Created by myself alongside woodworker Fraser Graham and land manager Alice Brawley, it features handcrafted instruments including two marimbas, a bass kalimba, cajon, pipes, shakers, and chimes. Since its completion in March, it has become a favourite spot for woodland visitors and cyclists.
I lead annual Musical Forest Workshops, blend storytelling, rhythm games, and collaborative music-making, creating rhythms inspired by nature. From river walks to musical storytelling, this forest space fosters creativity, community, and joy.
Alongside Lyra Arts' Youth Music group I created a production bridging music and theatre.
Blending drums, keyboards and guitars with electronic controllers, Youth Music have composed a soundtrack of dreamy songs and rhythms which journey through nocturnal soundscapes. From magical midnight ceilidhs to gentle lullabies and thrilling chase scenes to massive monster parties, join Youth Music as they bring the story of Frankie and Max’s Nighttime Adventure to life.
