The Mahabodhi Temple Complex is one of the four holy sites related to the life of the Lord Buddha, and particularly to the attainment of Enlightenment. The first temple was built by Emperor Asoka in the 3rd century B.C., and the present temple dates from the 5th or 6th centuries. It is one of the earliest Buddhist temples built entirely in brick, still standing in India, from the late Gupta period.
Barabar Caves are situated in the hilly area near Makhdumpur, 25 km south of Jehanabad. These ancient rock-cut Buddhist chambers date back to 3rd Century A.D. and are renowned as the place of origin of the Ajivika sect. Baba Siddhnath Temple, also known as Siddheshwar Nath Temple, built during the Gupta period in the 7th Century A.D. is located at one of the highest peaks in the range of the Barabar Hills.
Vishnu Temple, Kako is a place of historical and religious significance. The temple was formally established in 1950. It enshrines a historical idol of Lord Vishnu and is a popular site among tourists. Next to the temple, is a huge pond, which remains flooded with tourists throughout the year especially during the festival of Chhath to offer prayers to Lord Bhaskara (The Sun)
This site contains historical remains of ancient temples and sculptures. The remains resemble the structure of the ancient mandapa and Garbhagriha.
