The group heads up the stairs to the second floor of the museum. This is where the trouble started. A few hours ago there were six inert draconian relics here, in boxes, being prepared to go on display. Now there are three evil draconian artifact weapons here. They've all been covered in blood during Martha Butler's battle against the cultists; they're all awake, and they all want slaughter and destruction.
The artifacts are the Orb of Lightning, the Kinetic Orb, and Stonecrusher. Describe the three artifacts to the group, and then ask everyone present for an easy save versus mind control. Anyone who fails a save has been mind-controlled into picking up one of the weapons. Ask them which weapon they wanted to pick up.
Anyone who picks up one of the weapons (and fails the associated save versus mind control) attacks the rest of the party. Note that Stonecrusher is eight feet long and can destroy any object it touches; swinging it indoors could damage the ceiling, and a missed attack with it could put a hole in the floor. Striking someone with the Kinetic Orb could knock them out of the window (dealing falling damage as normal).
Once all that is resolved, the group can inspect the room. There are six large display cases with labels, like so:
"This ancient draconian relic appears to have been an object of mourning for the Draconian people. It's covered in blades, but it's too large and too heavy to be used as a weapon. It's one of a pair that were discovered in the same tomb."
"This ancient draconian relic appears to have been an object of mourning for the Draconian people. It's covered in blades, but it's too large and too heavy to be used as a weapon. It's one of a pair that were discovered in the same tomb."
"This ancient draconian relic is a transparent crystal ball. It may have been used as an ornament of some sort. Writings on the tomb where it was discovered suggest that it is an "instrument of sorrow".
"This ancient draconian relic appears to be a bowling ball, made of a dark obsidian substance. Did the ancient draconians have a game that was analogous to modern-day bowling?"
"We're unsure of the purpose of this ancient draconian relic. Is it a bench? A musical instrument? A comically oversized club? The most interesting thing about this relic is the veins of adamantine that are threaded through it. Modern metalworking knows no way to produce a substance containing veins of adamantine. Was it mined this way?"
"This ancient draconian relic seems to be an eating knife, although a very finely crafted one. Some cultures would bury utensils in the tomb of important people, so that they would have the utensils in the afterlife. No bodies or skeletons were found in the tomb containing this relic, although there was a long poem full of lamentations about darkness. We're still speculating about what this could mean."
There are some crates, including one which contains large draconian-sized gloves and boots made of gold. The gloves and boots are nonmagical and are quite heavy.
(If someone wears the gloves, it gives them partial resistance to the mind controlling effects of the weapons. The gold in the gloves performs a similar function to lead, insulating the wearer from magical effects. Don't volunteer this to the group, obviously!)
The group is probably looking for ways to destroy or neutralize all these evil artifacts. Refer to "Background 2: Draconian Relics" for details about how this could work.
As the action seems to be dying down, let someone look out the window and notice a confused-looking cultist outside near the Miracle Spring.
