The group arrives at the Miracle Spring Museum, which is in the central plaza of the village, facing the Miracle Spring.
The central plaza of the village is covered in bloodstains, but there's nobody here. With this amount of blood, there should probably be some corpses, but in fact all the corpses have raised as zombies and shambled away.
If the group wants to interact with other locations, there's the Miracle Spring itself, plus the Miracle Bakery, the General Store, and the City Hall. They're all closed and barricaded. Many civilians have taken shelter in the General Store.
Anyone who drinks from the Miracle Spring gets the benefit of a long rest. If someone goes to do this, remind them that this will only work once per day; do they want to do it now?
Sometimes groups try throwing the Right Hand of Darkness into the Miracle Spring, in the hope that the spring will purify it or something. This doesn't work. If someone tries it, I narrate the darkness spreading out from the artifact weapon and contaminating the spring water. Usually the group pulls the weapon back out of the spring once they see that it's not working the way they want. Any contamination that happened to the spring water slowly reverses itself when the weapon is removed.
As to the Museum itself, the door is open, but it's dark in there. It's spookily dark. The desert sun is shining brightly just outside, but it's pitch black inside the building. This is magical darkness, so most forms of darkvision won't penetrate it. A child's laughter echoes from inside the museum.
(Martha Butler's grandson, Timmy Butler, is the only person in the museum. He's holding the Blade of Shadow, which has taken control of his body. The magical darkness is a projection of the Blade of Shadow, but Timmy can see just fine, and he thinks this is a wonderful game.)
If the group attempts to use social skills against Timmy, they succeed without a roll. Timmy can be persuaded, deceived, or intimidated without a problem. The group can get Timmy to explain what he's doing here (he's here to meet his grandma for lunch! they're going to have bagels!) and what he's holding (there's a sword! he found it upstairs! there was blood, but he wasn't scared!). But the group can't persuade Timmy to drop the weapon or leave the museum, because he's not physically in control of his body.
The most common way to resolve this problem is to wander blindly into the darkness and try to grab or disarm Timmy (or simply to knock him unconscious and hope this doesn't kill him). Timmy attacks the group with the Blade of Shadow while they're attempting this. Any attempts to grab Timmy will first have to explain how they know where he's standing (perhaps a perception check to hear his voice? perhaps a spell or class feature?), and then will have some trouble actually hitting him because they can't see him (but he can see the group).
Features of the museum include a large potted plant, a donation box, the front desk, and a staircase to the second floor. There's an exhibit about the Miracle Spring, and another about the ancient draconian people.
If someone grabs Timmy while he's being controlled by the Blade of Shadow, it might place itself in their hand, "trading up" from a small child to a more capable warrior.
When the Blade of Shadow is lying on the ground, the darkness field dissipates and everyone can see clearly. The Blade of Shadow might attempt to mind-control someone into picking it up.
From here there are two paths. The most obvious is to go upstairs and investigate the second floor, where all the artifacts are being held (Scene 4). If someone makes a perception check and looks outside, they notice a confused-looking cultist (Scene 5).
