Welcome to the Asynchronous Learning module! In this module, you will accomplish the following goals:
Review what asynchronous learning is
Explore resources that will:
Encourage you to think about your target audience and how that impacts your instruction
Consider challenges of asynchronous learning
Recognize the benefits of asynchronous learning
Discuss ways to design instruction for asynchronous learners
Examine and reflect on examples of asynchronous instruction
Share and collaborate with peers in the blog
Before exploring resources and examples of good asynchronous learning, it is crucial to understand what asynchronous learning is. Asynchronous Learning is defined as "forms of education, instruction, and learning that do not occur in the same place or at the same time" (Ed Glossary). This is most seen in methods of online learning in which students learn from instruction. Asynchronous Learning may take place as:
Online discussion boards
Viewing pre-recorded lessons or lectures
Game-based learning tasks
Collaborative documents in the cloud
