Discussion Board Example
The purpose of the discussion board is to encourage students to communicate and collaborate with their peers in a common forum. In a discussion board, students should be encouraged to engage with each other beyond their assigned work.
The image to the right demonstrates ways to promote collaboration. There are several forums beyond the coursework requirements.
The "Questions and Answers" forum allows students to post a question about the course or any content. This gives students the chance to respond to each other or speak with the instructor.
The "Cyber Cafe" allows learners to speak about any topic they want. This allows the students to build relationships with peers beyond their coursework.
These two forums on the discussion board demonstrate ways to engage learners beyond the coursework. This will strengthen communication, collaboration, and relationships outside of the asynchronous learning.

Providing learners with collaboration and community building forums is crucial during asynchronous learning. These kinds of platforms allow students to work together as well as get to know each other more personally.
The images above are two examples of platforms that would be helpful to use for asynchronous instruction. Flipgrid is a website where users post short videos. Users can respond to each others videos with their own videos as well. This gives asynchronous learners an opportunity for face to face interaction. Padlet is a website in which users to communicate by posting notes on a digital wall. This allows a lot of users to communicate and view each others posts at once. They can also respond to each others' notes.
