The purpose of mental health counseling is to gain insight into the origins of our concerns, understand unhealthy life patterns, resolve trauma, grief, and other painful feelings that are holding us back, and identify solutions to current problems. Therapeutical approaches taken by the team:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Emphasizes enabling individuals to learn to be their own therapists.
Focus is placed on current life and improvement in functioning and quality of life.
Core beliefs are that problems stem from faulty or unhelpful ways of thinking, there are learned patterns of unhelpful behavior, and better ways of coping can be learned.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Demonstrates sound efficacy as an intervention for a variety of clinical issues such as depression, binge eating disorder, generalization anxiety disorder, substance abuse and dependence, and borderline personality disorder.
Aims at enhancing overall psychological well-being.
Core beliefs are that the avoidance of internal processes leads to a wide array of problematic behaviors and the presence of experiential avoidance and lack of experiential acceptance form the basis of human suffering and dysfunction.
