Child/Parent Psychotherapy

Child/Parent Psychotherapy is an evidenced-based treatment for children birth through 5 who have experienced trauma and/or who have a caregiver with a history of trauma. CPP focuses on the relationship between the child and their caregiver. Trauma and stressful life experiences can include, but are not limited to, relational distress, abuse, neglect, witness to domestic and/or community violence, separation from a primary caregiver, and parental mental illness. CPP aims to support and strengthen the child’s relationship with their caregiver as a way to help the child return to developmentally appropriate functioning.

  • Initial CPP sessions include a comprehensive assessment of both the child and caregiver’s history

  • Discussion with caregiver and child about how therapy will be a safe space to play out experiences and express feelings

  • Facilitated play therapy

  • Identification and regulation of feelings

Dance/Movement Therapy

The American Dance Therapy Association defines dance/movement therapy as the “psychotherapeutic use of movement to promote emotional, social, cognitive, and physical integration of the individual.”

Dance/Movement Therapy allows us to process thoughts, feelings, and experiences on a body-based level. Our physical postures, gestures, and movements are representations of what we are feeling inside. I firmly believe in, and am passionate about, the mind/body connection. As a registered dance/movement therapist, I understand the relationship among our experiences, mind, and body. By meeting you where you are physically and emotionally, I am able to support understanding and growth through the use of movement.

Each session is based on the individual needs of the client and could include:

  • Grounding/breathing exercise to bring awareness to physical body and any feelings that may arise during this time

  • Warm-up of physical body; this can include gestures, postures, or whole body movements

  • Development of a theme based on the individual or if in a group, the group’s needs

  • Exploration and processing of feelings through movement, gestures, postures, and/or talk

  • Regulating body, emotions, and thoughts
