What is yoga?
Yoga is a mind, body and spirit practice with a 5000 year history in ancient Indian philosophy. It is a combination of physical postures, breathing techniques and meditation or relaxation practices, designed to enhance physical, mental and spiritual discipline.
What is yoga for children?
Yoga for children takes traditional yoga, which uses physical postures, breathing and relaxation techniques, but delivers it through age appropriate games, challenges and fun activities. It focuses on the mind and body, and while yoga has spiritual context, the children’s program excludes any reference to spiritual or religious beliefs, hence making it non-denominational and suitable for all cultural backgrounds.
The program includes poses and movements to increase strength, flexibility, balance and coordination, which not only promotes healthy physical development, it also assists in reducing a child's risk and/or severity of physical injury from other activities.
Yoga also teaches children breath control, awareness and discipline, which can help reduce their impulsivity and increase their focus and concentration.
Classes are intended to be fun and inclusive, comprising of activities such as age-appropriate games, and activities, while promoting creativity and exploration of the physical postures. Interaction is encouraged, allowing children to build their imagination and confidence.

I have my own studio in Myrtleford and have been teaching for over 4 years, and in the last 2 years have been running Kids Yoga sessions, both at my studio, and at local schools. My passion and love for yoga and seeing first-hand the positive effects it can have on people old and young is absolutely inspiring, motivating, but mostly very rewarding. I believe I am a confident, friendly, and cheerful teacher, and I also bring a warm, kind, and nurturing presence to my classes.
