Who is Milson?

Admilson Veloso da Silva (Milson) is a Brazilian journalist with an MBA in Digital Communication, a master’s degree in Social Communication (Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais), and a Ph.D. in Communication Science (summa cum laude) from the Corvinus University of Budapest. Moreover, he's a Researcher and Assistant Professor at the Institute of Marketing and Communication Sciences at the same university. Previously, he worked in journalism, digital marketing, social media management, political communication, and public relations. His main research interests are social media studies, youth self-presentation, and visual mobile communication. Check the Profile page for more information.

In a world where the population aged 60 and above is set to double by 2050, visual social media platforms are becoming key spaces to (re)shape how aging is portrayed and perceived. | Milson VelosoIn a world where the population aged 60 and above is set to double by 2050, visual social media platforms are becoming key spaces to (re)shape how aging is portrayed and perceived. I am pleased to announce the publication of our new article, “Digital ageism? Analyzing women’s depictions on TikTok through user-generated content under #aging and #antiaging,” in the Q1-ranked journal Mobile Media & Communication (Sage). This joint work with Erdenebat Ariuntsetseg contributes to the growing body of research exploring the intersections of gender, aging, and digital media. By analyzing 300 TikTok videos tagged with #aging and #antiaging, our study investigates how women’s aging is represented on the platform, revealing the predominance of appearance-centered narratives that often reinforce societal beauty standards and gendered ageism. Our findings identified seven recurring portrayals, ranging from anti-aging routines to more empowering narratives that challenge stereotypes and promote healthy aging. This publication builds on our shared academic interest in visual mobile communication and age-related discourse, and is the result of a collaborative research effort that began during Ari’s undergraduate studies—an award-winning project (TDK)—under my supervision at Corvinus University of Budapest. Artificial intelligence, mobile journalism, and populist communication are reshaping the media landscape, and these topics were part of the discussions at the Media and Communication – Research and… | Milson VelosoArtificial intelligence, mobile journalism, and populist communication are reshaping the media landscape, and these topics were part of the discussions at the Media and Communication – Research and Practice International Conference, held on June 19–20, 2025, at the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences - University of Bucharest. I had the pleasure of attending the event, where I engaged with scholars from across Europe and beyond. The event offered opportunities for discussion on the ethical, social, and practical implications of emerging technologies in communication. Presentations touched on a range of timely issues, from the algorithmic influence on democracy to the role of journalists in digital ecologies. As part of the program, I also contributed to a session on AI and education, presenting—together with Kamila Almaz—some empirical results from a project on AI literacy for undergraduate communication and business students. More than a platform to share our work, the conference allowed me to exchange ideas with peers, learn about contemporary research methodologies, and reflect on how universities, the media, and society are responding to these changes and challenges. #Media #Conference #ArtificialIntelligence #Education #DigitalCommunication #Research
