MILE celebrated their first Maryland Day at the College of Education tent with "Literacy Is Your Superpower" themed activities, complete with capes! Our team heard people sing songs, tell stories in many languages, and learn why literacy is more than just reading and writing. On their way out, visitors of all ages wrote why literacy is their superpower, writing anything from "Because I like reading" to"It helps me learn more about art."

MILE brought together UMD students, MSU students, and community members together to travel to the Maryland State House in Annapolis, MD. Together, the team worked to improve and advocate for policies such as funding the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, chronic absenteeism, literacy education, professional development, juvenile justice, and child welfare. 

Language Science Day is a signature annual event for Maryland's language science community. Each fall, the event brings together hundreds of students and faculty across the University and affiliated centers, providing opportunities for participants to exchange ideas, showcase new and ongoing projects, learn about research and training opportunities, spark potential collaborations, and get to know other fellow language scientists

The partnership between the University of Maryland and Morgan State University is what made MILE possible. When MILE launched in the fall of 2023, the University of Maryland and Morgan State campuses held launch events to celebrate the emerging collaboration.
