As Website Editor, it was my job to ensure well-written, relevant stories were being published consistently and in a timely manner. Not only did this take copy-editing oversight, but it required much work to promote stories through the school halls, and on our social media platforms. I found out that by doing so, our analytics would skyrocket for promoted stories as there would be more buzz around our content to get our audience excited about what we do.
Promotion is incredibly important because I like my staffers to know that they are reaching big audiences, and give them the motivation to write. These posters were pretty successful in engaging more students around the school, as I'd often use these as templates for newly released stories.
Our fun TikToks and reels seemed to help us gain the most followers over time. People love to see the staff and their peers hop on some of the most recent trends, and we love to see our audience broaden. Any staffer could pitch in their ideas for social media, and we'd use some of our class time to create them.
This tweet and its statistics earned me a 3rd place award at the 2025 SIPA Convention for the "Social Media - Breaking News" category.
In addition to my Instagram and TikTok engagement, I also used our Twitter (X) platform to promote stories that were released, update breaking news and live tweet game updates, which our audience was very fond of. Here is an example of one of my breaking news tweets.
