The thing about broadcasting is that it seemed so daunting when I first went out to film. However, once the microphone and tripod were put in my hand, I realized the hard part was over. I've had many videos fall through, and while videography is not my strong suit, it is something I'm proud to say I've seen growth with over the years. It's not only about the video, but it requires good lighting, a good place to shoot, plenty of time, the right people, good audio, and patience to edit. Here are a few videos I've made.
"Define Beautiful" was the first video I made. With the help of a returning staffer, I went around the school during lunch and asked for various definitions of beautiful from multiple perspectives, and ended up creating a diverse montage. I was pretty proud of the footage we got, and my video editing started there. I think this work has room for improvement, but it was a good learning opportunity for me.Â
"Live With the Wire," was the first episode of the series I started to show our audience our staff culture. I wanted to start something that younger staffers could carry on in later years, something to show off our staff's personality. This was an entirely self-led project, and it gave me much independent video experience.
I was happy to create something that would open doors for future staffers, creating a series. This video was the 2nd of the series, still recorded in my early phases of learning video. It was a project I came into with much more confidence from previous experience.
Once I got the hang of videography, learning to set up interviews was a major step for me. In this video, my video group and I got more practice and understanding of what it looks like to set aside a quiet, relevant space for interviews to take place. This helped set me up for success in Charged Media.
In Charged Media, Video projects were regular client needs. Here is just one example of my work with client Jennifer Carter. She requested we film her Christmas Series' raw footage. This spanned about 3 days of filming. A film day starts with preparing a checklist of items needed to produce the most professional quality video, and discussing with our client beforehand how we can use her time wisely.
