Definitely one of my favorite games from the 1980's. I have actually had two of these games over my collecting career. The first one was purchased from CoinOpWarehouse back in summer of 2005 when Lloyd and company were moving warehouses from Gaithersburg, MD to northern VA. I picked this up as-is for $65. I never been to CoinOpWarehouse before and was in awe when I arrived. Truly an arcade collectors dream. I spent quite some time walking around the warehouse just looking at the huge amount of vintage games they had. A buddy and I loaded up the game and headed home.
When we finally unloaded it I was suprised as to the amazing condition this game was in. Aside from the exterior needing a wipedown and a missing coin chute (which Lloyd actually gave me an extra complete coin door), the cabinet was pristine. The sideart was intact, the control panel, bezel, and marquee were in great condition, the game was clean as a whistle on the inside.
After a short time cleaning and moving into the gameroom it was game on!
Unfortunately at the time I did not have that much room for games and ending up selling this minty-fresh Commando for $200. The sad thing about it is the person that purchased it began inquiring as to what would be needed to convert it into a MAME cabinet when he was picking it up. Sniff, sniff...
After establishing Manifest Destiny on the entire lower level of my house (and garage) I began looking for another Commando in 2011. I ended up finding one local for $180. The game was in decent shape but nothing like the original one I had from CoinOpWarehouse; it was solid but dirty and the monitor was weak. After a thorough cleaning, monitor chassis rebuild, and electrical inspection the game was ready to be added to the lineup.
