MCU Program Goals

A midwife of technical expertise

1. The undergraduate program aims to prepare students to practice at the full scope of the Certified Professional Midwife credential through the demonstration of broad, integrative, and specialized knowledge.

A midwife of professional excellence

2. The undergraduate program aims to prepare students to practice within their own communities and synthesize applied and collaborative learning. Students will engage in the maternity care system professionally and ethically at all times.

A midwife of personal greatness

3. The undergraduate program aims to prepare students for reflective practice and a perpetual commitment to contribute to the professionalization of direct-entry midwifery.

4. The undergraduate program aims to prepare graduates to educate others in their profession and in their communities.

Professional/Academic Goals

• Secure preceptorship in Tennesse or Alabama by October 2025.

• Become NPR Certified by August 2024.

• Graduate MCU within 5 years and become a licensed Midwife in the State of Tennesse.

• Create local midwifery care tents/ spots within my community for accessible prenatal care. 

Personal Goals

• In order to reach all of my goals, its most important I maintain my mental, physical health and personal relationships with my kids, family and partner. I will take breathers and spend time with my loved ones when I can. 

• Have a POC birth workers Directory within my community and bring back southern traditional midwifery within my town. 

• Have my midwifery practice in the next 4 years. 

• Pass down my teachings and work to my daughter who is already fascinated with birth within 3 years.
