Based in Mid Sussex with rides starting in and around Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath, members also come from Worthing in the West across to Heathfield in the East and down to Lewes in the South, so with quite a wide catchment area.
The average turnout is between six to a dozen riders, so always plenty enough for a variety of good company and not so many as to lose the convivial feel of a group ride.
With just an email group and a Runs List in the cloud, members can easily broadcast any rides about to take place and keep track of diary dates on a shared spreadsheet ... so all you need is an email address and an internet browser, that's it ... plus a bike of course!
Once you've joined, you'll be added to our mailing group to automatically receive news of any forthcoming rides, and to publish any rides should you care to put on some yourself (always most welcome but that is purely voluntary).
The club was first formed in 1985 by Roger Dean (March 1985 to March 1990), then led by Jim Surgey (April 1990 to January 2010), followed by John Beaumont (February 2010 to November 2016).
Since then members still ride out together but with rides nowadays arranged on a collective rota and a more casual ad-hoc basis.
Riding is clearly good for you, as many of our early members still join us either for the full ride or to meet up (on bike of course) at lunch!
.... and in the beginning ...
The pace is relatively modest at about 10 m.p.h. and if you're not initially sure about making the whole distance, then consider riding out only part of the day, say to mid morning break or perhaps to lunch, to then find your own way back.
If using the train as a get-out option for the return, take care of course to check beforehand that suitable services near the route are running (especially at weekends)!
