Entrepreneurship Incubator
Senior Project
12th grade students team up to start their own indie game development company.
Students build original games and apps in their own indie design studio setting. Software is developed using Agile project management in a real world setting.
From crowdfunding to completion; students will design, build and market their game/app.
Each indie student company develops and launches their game/app into the marketplace for sale on Steam, Itch.io, Google Play store or other marketplace.
A top performer had over 64,000 downloads in just the few months from launch in March to graduation in May. Many keep generating profits long after they graduate from Middleton Game Design.
All the money these students make, they get to keep!
Middleton High School does not take any fees or percentages of your profits.
Students learn how to use crowdfunding sites such as kickstarter.com and crowdfunding.com to raise capital for their Senior Project Original Game/App.
All funds are maintained by the students in their own online business accounts. The school has no involvement in the raising, maintaining or spending of the funds that students generate.
STEAM is a great place to launch indie games. Students get international exposure through the STEAM platform and generate downloads/sales from all around the world.
Students are not required to launch through STEAM, but most do.
Employers can see your game online and know you have what it takes to make money.
Itch.io offers a more affordable option to launching on STEAM. While most students launch on both platforms, some use Itch.io to generate the funds needed to eventually join STEAM.
Itch.io is a FREE platform. STEAM requires a $100 registration fee.
Both platforms take a percentage of your sales for their valuable service.
Student compile there games to play on both PC and Android.
Google Play offers the largest audience for your game/app. It is also the most expensive to use.
Unlike the Apple Store, Google Play is easy to get a game/app for sale. Apple Store is a very long and complicated keychain process that take longer than our class time to implement. Some groups will continue the process and get on the Apple Store after leaving Middleton.
