Understanding the behavior of materials under extreme environments is critically important for ensuring safety—for example, in structural components of nuclear reactors. To this end, we design custom in situ cells that simulate extreme conditions and conduct real-time experiments to study material degradation. Our ultimate goal is to develop more tolerant and reliable structural materials for such harsh environments.
