Tropics Microfossil Laboratory (TML)

A laboratory to understand the past and present environment of  the tropics

The laboratory serves as a teaching and research laboratory. Various classes requiring laboratory work on sediments are held in this laboratory. The lab also serves as the main preparation room for our samples. The laboratory is equipped with tools to perform preparation techniques for the study of macro-, micro-, and nannofossils.

Aside from preparation, different methods of analysis are also done in this laboratory. Some of these would include foraminifera picking, grain size analysis, and others.

The laboratory welcomes applications from interested and enthusiastic individuals to pursue short-term research, Masters (by research), Ph.D. and Post-Doctoral research who have an excellent academic background in Earth Sciences or allied subjects.

Motivated candidates with interest are encouraged to contact Dr. Arindam Chakraborty (arindam@um.edu.my) at any time over the year, with a cover letter, research interest, curriculum vitae, and details of two referees (in one pdf file).

Interested in becoming a micropaleontologist and have a ton of questions?
