The Michigan Konkani Association, commonly known as Michkon, is a subdivision of the North America Konkani Association(NAKA). It is primarily for Konkani Americans living in Michigan but we have members from many different places. Although we are one of the smaller Konkani associations in the United States, we still pride ourselves on our hospitality, friendliness, and our Konkani heritage. Michkon was started in 1985 by five families. These include Satish & Rekha Kamath, Krishna & Padmini Nayak, Srinivas & Prabha Baliga, Divakar & Usha Pai, and Ratnakar & Sudha Kini. The reasons for creating Michkon are, and I quote, "We are strangers in a strange land. How will we preserve the tradition for our children?" These beautiful words were written by Satish Kamath when he presented the idea of Michkon to a small group at the Pais' house. The first event Michkon ever held was small with only 8-10 families. The food was dahlitoy sheath(daal and rice), batata song(potato curry), channe gushi(chickpea stew), and pineapple sheera(semolina pudding). And the entertainment was panchadik(gossip). The biggest thing that Michkon has done is that it has always supported the aspirations of the ladies. And this still continues as many women have been a big part of Michkon's organization. From 10 to 100 families, Michkon has grown but still retains its ideals as a religious organization that centers on the idea of family growth and friendship

This video describes the history of the broader Konkani community, our Indo-Aryan & Brahmin origins, and records of the Konkani language. It's primarily about the background of Gaud Saraswat Brahmins(GSB) so if you're interested, it might be worth your while
This is the unofficial flag of the Konkan coast and an unoffical emblem of the Konkani diaspora. Just something I felt like sharing on the topics of Michkon and Konkani history
Another resource for those who want to broaden their horizons and understand about Konkani events happening back in the homeland. This channel has fascinated my family and the videos they make are all about Mangalore. So please take a look and see for yourself!
