Banned books are books that have been deemed inappropriate, normally by a parent, for schools and libraries to have. These books include topics such as LGBTQ+, violence, racism, and/or other qualities that are considered inappropriate for children. Although I agree that these topics are sensitive, why should there not be books to help students understand and learn. Although I am not likely to read a book that contains some of these topics, I don't see why they aren't allowed at all, especially when you start to look at some of the children's books that are considered banned and their reasoning.
Here is some examples of Children's Literature that is considered banned in some places:
Charlotte's Web: Because the theme is death.
The Cat and the Hat: Because it promotes letting a stranger in the house.
The Lorax: Because there was a logging family that said it promotes "anti-logging."
The Giving Tree: Because it was considered sexist.
It is my belief that the books above are not bad books, but instead give great teaching opportunities, not just because of their topics and themes, but because they are classic children's books. I must mention that not all books are banned in every location, school, state, or the country as a whole. It is a case by case basis, however, I don't believe that books, meant for kids, school be taken out of schools.
