As I began drafting and designing my barrier infographic on the importance of accessibility to online learning, I wanted to offer actionable steps that teachers and institutions could implement. I needed to present the information in a clear, simple, easy-to-understand, yet visually engaging way. I also wanted to highlight key points like accessible tools, design principles, and inclusive practices, all of which point to the importance of accessibility for online learning. I sought to inform the viewers of my infographic about why accessibility matters and the importance of making online learning environments more inclusive.
Through developing this infographic, I learned the diverse needs of students and how important it is to create inclusive learning environments. I also learned that accessibility isn’t just about making accommodations for students with disabilities but also about designing learning experiences that are flexible enough to support various learning styles, backgrounds, and technological access. As I stated above, I created this infographic to provide those like me, who never really thought through this problem, with an easy-to-understand introduction to the importance of accessible online courses and provide them with actionable steps to remedy these situations if they should encounter them.
